OUR FOUNDATION

What We Believe. What We Defend. What We Hold Loosely.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." — Proverbs 1:7

Hidden Valley Kings is built on seven pillars — the core values that every man who joins this brotherhood commits to live by. These are not suggestions. They are the foundation of who we are and the standard we hold one another to. Alongside these values, we stand on eight non-negotiable doctrinal truths. And below those, we hold a set of secondary positions — convictions we carry but will not divide the brotherhood over.
The Seven Pillars
Our Core Values

Every man in HVK is called to grow in all seven pillars simultaneously — through time, through relationship, through iron sharpening iron. These are the values you must align with to be a part of this brotherhood.

Pillar I
Love
Love is not emotion — it is commitment. Patient. Kind. It does not envy or boast. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. This is the standard every man in HVK is measured against.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 13:4–7
Pillar II
Seek
Those who seek Him find Him. A man of HVK does not drift — he pursues. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness above all other things, and trust that God provides everything else.
Scripture
Proverbs 8:17 · Jeremiah 29:13 · Matthew 6:33
Pillar III
Obey
Love is not merely a feeling — it is action. If you love Him, keep His commandments. To obey is better than sacrifice. Be a doer of the Word, not a hearer only. Present yourself to obedience and it will shape who you become.
Scripture
John 14:15 · 1 Samuel 15:22 · Romans 6:16 · James 1:22 · Luke 11:28
Pillar IV
Forgive
A man who cannot receive forgiveness cannot extend it. A man who cannot extend it cannot walk in freedom. Confess your sins — He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse. Then carry that same mercy to your brothers.
Scripture
1 John 1:9
Pillar V
Walk by Faith
We walk by faith, not by sight. Every man in HVK is called to make decisions, take steps, and build his life on what God has said — not on what he can see, feel, or control. Faith is the action of trusting the unseen.
Scripture
2 Corinthians 5:7
Pillar VI
Honor
Honor is not one-dimensional. It operates in three tiers — and a man of HVK walks in all three.
Honor God
1 Samuel 2:30 · Proverbs 3:9 · Psalms 91:15
Honor Among Men
Romans 12:10 · 1 Peter 2:17 · Proverbs 15:33 · Proverbs 22:4
Honor Through Character
Proverbs 20:3 · Proverbs 11:16 · Hebrews 13:4 · Proverbs 4:8
Pillar VII
Trust
Trust in the Lord with all your heart — not your own reasoning, your own strength, or your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in every area of your life and let Him direct your path.
Scripture
Proverbs 3:5–6

What We Will Die On
Core Doctrinal Pillars

These are the non-negotiable, foundational truths of the Christian faith. There is no room for debate here. These are the hills we stand on — together.

Doctrine I
The Authority and Reliability of Scripture
The Bible is God's revealed Word and the authoritative foundation for all Christian doctrine and practice.
Doctrine II
The Trinity
One God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Doctrine III
The Deity of Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man — the eternally existent Son of God.
Doctrine IV
The Resurrection of Christ
Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, defeating sin and death, and is alive forevermore.
Doctrine V
Salvation by Grace Through Faith
Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work — not through human effort, merit, or works.
Doctrine VI
The Substitutionary Atonement
Christ's death on the cross was the full payment and penalty for our sins.
Doctrine VII
The Lordship of Christ
Jesus is Lord. He calls His followers to repentance, obedience, and full surrender to His authority.
Doctrine VIII
The Abrahamic Promise
All those who walk by faith, both Jew and Gentile, are the Sons promised to Abraham and are fulfilling the Abrahamic Promise.

What We Hold Loosely
Secondary Doctrinal Positions

These are areas where faithful Christians can and do disagree. These positions represent where HVK leadership currently stands based on study and prayer — but they are not tests of fellowship or grounds for division. We remain students of Scripture on all of these, open to where the Holy Spirit leads.

Position 1
Eschatology (End Times)
We lean toward postmillennial theology, noting interesting scriptural connections to this view — but hold this loosely and recognize other faithful positions.
Position 2
Baptism
We believe baptism should be practiced on those old enough to make their own decision to follow Christ, by full immersion — reflecting the symbolism of dying and rising with Christ.
Position 3
Church Governance
We lean congregational but hold this undetermined. We recognize validity in other models and remain open to further study.
Position 4
Spiritual Gifts
We firmly believe in continuationism — that gifts of the Spirit, including prophecy, tongues, and healing, continue today and are actively distributed by the Holy Spirit.
Position 5
Predestination and Free Will
We hold both truths in tension. God provides opportunities to walk by faith, and Scripture also teaches God's sovereignty and predestination. We do not force a resolution where Scripture holds both.
Position 6
Extent of the Atonement
Christ died for all mankind — God so loved the world. He died to destroy death and the curse. His atonement applies to humanity.
Position 7
Female Leadership in the Church
We lean toward male leadership in pastoral and elder positions as more advisable and honoring, while acknowledging this is an area of continued study.
Position 8
Old Testament Law Application
Jesus fulfilled the law but did not abolish it. We follow Christ's commands, which guide us toward love — and by walking in love, we naturally fulfill the law's intent.
Position 9
Communion Theology
Communion is both symbolic and spiritual. The bread and wine are a remembrance of Christ's sacrifice and carry spiritual significance in our participation with Him.
Position 10
Speaking in Tongues
Speaking in tongues is a valid spiritual gift for today and should not be forbidden or discouraged in the church.
Position 11
Divine Healing
Physical healing is part of God's will for today. God sometimes withholds healing for purposes of spiritual growth — to develop endurance, character, and humility. We reject the notion that calling upon God for healing is demonic.
Position 12
Interpretation of Prophecy
Prophecy can be both literal and figurative. All prophecies will come to pass, and looking back at history we will see how they were fulfilled — whether literally or figuratively, the accuracy will be evident.
"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."
— Proverbs 27:17
